We have a major announcement to make.

We received an email from the guys at Intel that are hosting LANFest. They had scheduled their event before knowing what date our event was set for. They were also unable to change it. In light of this, they have asked PLR to join the two events together and make LANFest even better!

We agreed.

Therefore, registration has been closed for PLR 16 on our site. Please visit the LANFest website for the Dallas event to register.
The event runs from Friday, March 12th, to Sunday, March 14th and will seat 120 people.

If you have any more questions regarding the event, feel free to post them on our forums. No worries, we will be hosting PLR 17 at the EZNet Cafe in May with 70+ seats all running gigabit!

Thanks,
PLR Staff

Unfortunately I will not be able to go to this. I was really looking forward to PLR 16, cuz its just down the street from the house. Garland is too far for me to drive :- / plus the 3 day stay doesn't sound interesting to me.
If I had a nickel for every time I got killed in real life, I'd be a poor man...

I have not worked out my commute or living situation during the 3 days but I will post when I have it straight.

I should be able to transport 3 attendees + myself from the arlington/mid cities area to garland.

I am paid up and have a seat now 4-d. So that kind of makes a corner for PLR people, considering spiked and spindoc are at 2 and 1d respective, with two full tables for whom ever shows up.

Our power should be fine. The generator that we will have to supplement power has a spare range of about 30-40 kilowatts... with enough amperage to do whatever. How much power are you going to need?

well, this lan is about 3 times longer than the average PLR event, so you bring it, we'll play it
as far as what I'm providing... I'm a little sad to say that I was once again delayed in further server setup due to being laid off and then getting used to a new job which I started 2 weeks ago.

so we'll be providing the following servers:
2 counter-strike source ( 1 classic, 1 gungame... except for during tournament use )
2 l4d ( 1 4vc, 1 4v4 )
2 l4d2 ( 1 4vc, 1 4v4 )
2 dod:s
2 tf2
1 babo violent
1 fear combat
2 hl2dm

Sorry I'm a bit behind getting more setup to run other games... I'm poor and don't have most of them lol

Anyway, bring it and we'll play it I'm sure with 120 people and 3 days... there's time for everything

Shattered Horizon!! There is a steam tool for the server but if you don't have it the dl for it easy to find and it checks for a steam app running.

Shattered Horizon, wasn't that the dx10 only game with full spherical gravity? (meaning no direction was the set up direction, movement was free on all axis as well as gravitational pulls on all axis)

We don't run steam on the game server... except for the fact that i have shamefully been using it from time to time for my own needs as my comp is in pieces... but i'll look into a server distro for SH

SH server files located. Barring any potential issues with install and the fact that I can't actually test... this will be installed and ready to go for the upcoming LAN (although some people are reporting issues with lan mode, we'll see)

Here's hoping more than 1 person actually has the game ;)

The dedicated server for SH just used Steam as the main delivery for the software. The none steam version is the exact same as what you get from steam tools.

I downloaded the dedi files from their site, they do infact use steam as the delivery tool (ie the d/l location) however it's not linked to steam correctly and the srcds has not been updated to install it. As I said before, we don't run any server thru the steam client.

Also, SH should be running in the byoc on our game server, but keep in mind that it's a dx10 only game (you can't play if you don't have vista or win7)
steam is currently offering a bulk discount, buy 4 for the price of 3 if anyone wants to do a group buy, i may be interested

I will be there for the whole event and will transport up to 2 people with me. Please contact me immediately if you want a ride from the arlington area. Please remember that I am staff and will likely be one of the last people to leave the event.
